5-online-marketing-metrics-track

Because online marketing in earnest is still something that so many different businesses are each coming to on their own terms and at their own speed, the different online marketing metrics to measure are each very dependent on your individual business and situation.

  • One thing to remember for the online marketing metrics your having a look at is the metrics that are important to you will depend on your business, your marketing approaches and your goals. There are dozens of metrics you could measure. This post is simply an introduction to a few key metrics.

Leads Generated:

How many people is your online marketing actually reaching? How many people view your online marketing before one gives over their information? How many people who view your online marketing would like to learn more about your business? This is perhaps one of the more broad questions to be answered when you're wondering about how your online marketing is doing and it may be one of the most important. If people are viewing your online marketing efforts and consciously not finding out more directly from you, your message may not be getting across, you may be reaching the wrong audience or there could be something else offensive about your marketing efforts which turns viewers away.

Opt-in email list size:

Are your online marketing efforts at least getting people interested enough to leave their email address? If you send out bulk emails and find that the numbers on your opt-in email list is getting smaller that is a bad sign. Your email marketing could be going to the wrong type of customer or it could be not identifying your business in enough of a way for people not to turn that email into spam.

Social Media Reach:

Social media is really a huge way to indicate how popular your online marketing is. Websites like Facebook and Twitter are also one of the easiest online marketing metrics to measure. You can see the number of Facebook fans and Twitter followers you have. Facebook also sends out an email to tell you how many people have been to your businesses Facebook page, how many people have been "talking" about your page, and how your businesses Facebook presence is trending.

Website traffic (unique visitors):

This used to be the bread and butter for online marketing metrics to measure. When you put up an online marketing ad, how many people then went to your website? How many people clicked your hyperlink or found your site on their own? How many unique visitors made their way to your website after your marketing efforts aired? This is still one of the more important metrics to understand. You want your website to be popular and also trending in search results.

Sales:

Maybe the most undisputed of the online marketing metrics to measure is how your sales are doing. If you can even measure those leads from online marketing to your product out the door, knowing how your sales traffic is doing is so important. One of the sneaky marketing tools is to have a keyword or phrase associated with where you heard about the product from to give you a % discount off. People will remember something like "Todd's Online Widgets" if they get a percentage off their bill. The same is true of radio adverts, clipped coupons in the Sunday paper, and As Seen on TV promos. Your marketing feelers should be focused in on where people heard about your business.
